Robust Design/ Design for Six Sigma
With new developments or advancements to their products, companies always aim to fulfill the changed customer and legal requirements, e.g. with regard to:
- Performance,
- Robustness, and
- Emissions compliance (automotive),
in consideration of exacerbated manufacturing cost guidelines. We support project teams in the early phase of the development process with the systematic utilization of development methods from the Design for Six Sigma environment (e.g. functional analyses, interface diagrams, FMEA, DVP&R). In cross-functionally filled workshops, we identify requirements imposed on the product, sub-system, or a component and describe the system both functionally and technically via an effect chain model.
A subsequent degree of maturity analysis allows one to focus on components and functions that are fraught with risk. This approach allows one to make the harnessing of a system-wide error structure as well as the reproduction of potential errors comprehensible. Subsequently, the error potential can be evaluated with the help of an FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and prioritized with regard to the necessity of their remedy. This allows for the timely identification of critical scopes of development and thus for a focused utilization of resources.
The implementation of the assurance system “Design Verification Plan & Report” aims to achieve the permanent assurance of the measures taken.
